Why should I give through the Community Foundation?
The Oshkosh Area Community Foundation is focused on the long-term success of our community. When you donate to the Community Foundation, your contribution is endowed, meaning it's invested for future growth.

How do I know the Community Foundation is financially accountable?
The Oshkosh Area Community Foundation is certified for financial excellence by the National Council on Foundations. As part of that certification, we are required to complete a thorough independent audit every fiscal year. We also utilize the expertise of our finance committee, a group of independent financial professionals, to provide expert advice and oversight of our investments.

We strive to provide our donors and the general public with full transparency. We invite you to review our Annual Report, IRS 990 forms and other financial information under the 'About Us' section on our website.

How do I decide what type of fund to establish?
Deciding what fund to establish depends on your personal goals and interests. One of the first questions to consider is whether you want ongoing involvement on how grants are distributed, or whether you want our knowledgeable staff to make those decisions on your behalf.

You may also want to consider how specific your interests are. Whether you're passionate a particular charity or a general cause will make a big difference in determining the right fund for you.

What fees are charged to the fund?
Fees support fund management, investment performance oversight and the annual independent audit. Fees range from .15 to 1.5% of the market value of the fund. For our full fee schedule, please visit the 'Financials' page under the 'About Us' section of our website.

Who administers the assets?
The Oshkosh Area Community Foundation retains Colonial Consulting as its investment consultant. Colonial Consulting does not invest any part of the Community Foundation's pool, but rather monitors investment performance of the money managers. Colonial Consulting also advises the Finance Committee on investment issues and opportunities.

What information do donors receive?
Donors receive a monthly or quarterly fund statement through our online fund management system, Donor Central. Donors also receive a copy of our Annual Report, and other periodic updates on the Community Foundation.

How are funds distributed to the community?
The Oshkosh Area Community Foundation distributes charitable funds based on the request and recommendation of donors. Some donors designate specific charities or areas of interest, and trust our knowledgeable staff to fulfill their wishes. Other donors reserve the option to make personal recommendations as opportunities occur.

Regardless, the Oshkosh Area Community Foundation board of directors reviews and approves all grant distributions, verifying that they are in accordance with IRS guidelines.
