More than 160 people participated on 19 teams that included a variety of community members and trivia enthusiasts from throughout the Fox Valley.

Oshkosh Rotary took first place in the contest, which included 10 timed rounds of 10 questions each. The non-sanctioned event included prizes, fun activities and basket raffles sponsored by OASD Parent-Teacher Organizations, local businesses and other organizations.

All proceeds benefitted the OASD Education Foundation, a group of funds with the Oshkosh Area Community Foundation supporting education. Established in 2012, the OASD Education Foundation enhances activities, innovation and opportunities for youth in Oshkosh public schools.

"The OASD Education Foundation is here to support our creative teachers and give them opportunities to implement programs that would allow students to fully utilize all that they learn in the classroom," says Supt. Stan Mack.

"These experiences would incorporate life experiences. Projects such as Senior Connects - the technology program that brings students and seniors citizens together - enrich our students' lives by helping them develop special relationships with people in our community they normally would not socialize with."

As a new way to support education in Oshkosh, the district has been working to gain awareness about the OASD Education Foundation by encouraging monthly payroll deductions among staff and teachers, sharing information with district retirees at its annual breakfast and holding small fundraisers. The trivia contest is by far the biggest fundraiser each year, says Kim Brown, Director of Learning.

"This is a way to help get the word out about the Foundation and engage the community in a fun activity. Participation has really grown each year of the contest," she says.

Raising awareness about the important role education plays in the economic health and wellbeing of the community motivated Barb Herzog to participate in the contest. A former teacher and member of the Board of Education, Herzog sees the OASD Education Foundation as a way to provide teachers extra resources to be creative in the classroom and do projects and activities that can no longer be funded by the district budget.

The OASD Education Foundation includes 12 funds that support education in Oshkosh schools, including the OASD Education Foundation Fund which supports general projects and programs. Other funds that support specific areas of focus and student scholarships include:
