Celebrate Education Grant - Lourdes Academy
Lourdes Academy middle school students research the criteria and selection process of the Newbery Medal award winning books. 6th grade students become familiar with thirty eligible books and read at least one that is just right for them. Each student then writes a letter recommending one of the books for the Newbery Medal, which is then submitted to a mock selection committee. 6th graders share their recommendations with the 7th and 8th grade class during a celebration event. Afterwards, a set of 30 eligible books is presented to the 7th and 8th grade literacy teachers for their classroom libraries. This program was funded in part by a Celebrate Education grant from the Oshkosh Mid-Morning Kiwanis and the Oshkosh Area Community Foundation.
